Spelt, with its mild, nutty flavor, is a popular alternative to wheat. It also provides several essential nutrients, such as iron, magnesium and zinc, which are important if you have hyperthyroidism. Eating spelt and other whole grains can improve heart health, aid digestion, reduce the risk of diabetes or improve pre-existing diabetes, and help people achieve or maintain a healthy weight. The vitamins and minerals in spelt help strengthen the immune system and reduce inflammation, so spelt is recommended for arthritis, perimenopause and menopause.
